"Timeless"

On one of my busiest weeks of 2013, I decided that it would be nice to raffle off a painting at the Acoustic Long Island Summer Concert. So, with only days to get the concert set up, I filled the rest of my waking hours completing this painting. Fortunately I was able to crank it out in two days - two very long days. That's Audrey again (see "Somewhere Else" below) sitting on the front lawn where the concerts take place. THe good news is that we were able to raise over $1,300 for Deepwells Mansion. The concert went on without a hitch - though getting to that point included many hurdles. I slept for most of the day after the concert.

Portrait of Jesse Terry

Earlier this May I spent a few days in Nashville hanging out with friend and rising star, Jesse Terry (www.jesseterrymusic.com). His music and friendship are such an inspiration - give him a listen, I think you'll agree that this guy has the goods. Anyway, he showed me around "the town" and even got me up close and personal with Vince Gill and The Time Jumpers. Wow, what a show! I highly recommend it if you're ever in Nashville on a Monday night. When we weren't playing, we were busy taking photos as reference for this painting. Met a lot of nice people along the way who were all enthusiastic in helping us find the perfect shot. I placed Jesse in the exact center of the painting as a "tip of the hat" to artist (and one of Jesse's mentors) Trey Friedman (www.treyfriedman.com) who paints trees and is known for putting his subjects smack in the middle of his paintings. I'll be producing a limited edition of 150 numbered and signed lithographs of this painting which you can get by pledging to Jesse's Pledge Music Campaign to help fund his upcoming album (go to www.pledgemusic.com/projects/jesseterrymusic).

Man in the Mirror

Sketched this one looking in the mirror while I was down in Florida visiting my Mom and Dad. It is the first of a month long daily drawing challenge I'm doing with my daughter Sam. A sketch a day - just the kind of discipline I need. Thanks Sam!

Three in a Row

Painted this one over the winter while I was missing being out on the lake. I liked the way the sunlight glowed on the inside of the front kayak.

Somewhere else...

This scene was on the front lawn of Deepwells Mansion. It was a beautiful sunny day and I was helping out in the filming of a music video for Barnaby Bright. Audrey was nice enough to come by and sit for this. Unfortunately, that glorious 100-year old tree she is sitting against is no longer there - a victim of Hurricane Sandy. Glad I was able to capture it here. "Somewhere Else" 24" x 36", Oil on canvas.

The longest day, the shortest night.

Here's a portrait of my friends Nathan and Becky Bliss (aka Barnaby Bright). They posed for me in between takes of their "Old Coats" music video - which was being filmed at the historic Deepwells Mansion in Saint James. Because their band is named after the summer solstice (ie: the longest day, the shortest night), we loved the fact that Nathan was in the "night" and Becky was in the "day". "Night and Day" 24" x 24", Oil on canvas.

Mister Jessie

After years of our three kids begging for a dog, we finally caved when our youngest, James, complained of needing a companion because his two sisters had left for college. He's quite the character - the dog that is. :) Who's a good boy!!
